Most parents who contact me are engaged in heroic battle to ensure that their children lead happy and successful lives. I help parents by working with their children - usually teen and young adult children - by guiding them through major transitional stages in their practical journey. This usually translates to practical help during high school, college transition, and career choice.
I started The Learning Consultants in 2002. The company is fully staffed to serve most every tutoring and educational counseling need. We have offices and team members in Connecticut. New York, New Jersey and Washington, DC. We have subsidiaries related to college counseling, career counseling, and LSAT Prep, and law school tutoring. In relation to this venture, my specific practice - as opposed to the broader service areas of The Learning Consultants and its subsidiaries - focuses predominantly on helping parents help their children in the following areas:
Student Mastery - The student training program that I created to start The Learning Consultants and which provided the background for my first book: Motivate Your Son.
College counseling - The transition to college is almost always the main motivational point for working with high school students. Most parents benefit from outside guidance. My team and I have been helping students choose and gain admission to colleges that fit them on an experiential level and serve them on a practical level.
Career Counseling - I have been immersed in guiding young adults in what I label "The New World of Work" for the last fifteen years. My second and third books: Career Path of Abundance and The Parents' Guide for Career Planning for Your Twentysomething focused squarely on the issue of careers in the current day. This area has become college to career for many and often high school to college to career for others.
I far prefer calls from either my local area, from friends of past clients, or readers of my books than from those who find me on the web. Then I can avoid blathering on about myself.
The short answer: very few people do this work well. There are not that many people who are in the private educational consulting space. Most top educators and counselors work in school systems. Be grateful if you are fortunate to have one in your school.
The long answer or at least the biographical detail can be found here.
Contact me directly. Tell me anything and everything that would help me help you. Unless I am traveling, I will respond in 24 hours. I will let you know if what I do matches with how you want to be helped or I will provide informal advice in an effort to help a fellow parent.
Our company has offices and team members in Connecticut - where I meet in person -, New York, New Jersey and Washinton, DC. Even before the pandemic, I worked virtually with many clients, particularly those who read my books or who had friends in my geographic area who had referred them. Oddly enough, I seem to have as many clients from the West Coast as I do on the East Coast. We merely need to sort out our time differences and then happy to help.
This part of my consulting practice - while still part of The Learning Consultants - stems from a mission-based focus to help parents outside of my geographic area. Young people are in crisis. Parents are suffering. I can help.
